INDIANA ARTISTS

Celebrating Local Artists

“Indiana the Beautiful” at Flanner Buchanan

One of Indiana’s great contributions to American art is the work that was produced after the turn of the 20th Century in Brown County. When word of that area’s unspoiled natural beauty began to spread, talented artists flocked to Nashville. Their paintings gained national recognition because the hills, valleys, and haystacks of Brown County depicted the “simple life” in splendid color. Some of these artists are now considered masters. We celebrate this visual essence of the Midwestern spirit by displaying works by these and other living Indiana artists in our locations.

Paul H. Buchanan, Jr. began collecting these great Brown County pieces back in the 1980s. He brought us works by the masters T.C. Steele, L.O. Griffith, Gustave Bauman, and Adolf Shulz. We believe it is one of the largest private collections of Brown County art.

We have recently added names of other excellent Indiana artists to our collection: C.J. Mundy, Todd Reiffers, Mary Ann Davis, David Seward, Robert Eberle, David Cunningham, and Chris Newlund. The collection is now under the stewardship of 4th generation owner Bruce W. Buchanan.

As a company founded in 1881, we are proud to grow old with these records of Indiana’s natural splendor. The public is invited to visit Flanner Buchanan – Carmel, Broad Ripple, and Floral Park to see these works.
