Zelma Regina Cain, 85, of Carmel, passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2022. She was born on December 31, 1936 in Elkton, MD to the late Roman Benjamin and Beulah Regina (Fogleman) Ragan.
Zelma graduated from high school in Bel Air, Maryland, and then went to work for Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland, where she met her husband Loy Denton Cain; they were married for 64 years. They moved to Indiana and began farming, eventually raising their family in Monticello, Indiana, and in 1980 moved to Ft. Myers, FL, where Zelma later purchased and managed a flower shop until 1999, when they moved back to Carmel, Indiana, to be closer to family.
Zelma was passionate about her family, cooking, watercolor painting, gardening, and flower arranging, and enjoyed travelling across the United States. She also loved family vacations on the Atlantic seashore with her family, and her brothers and sisters and their families.
She is survived by husband Loy, daughter Kelly Townrow, son Marc Cain (Heather), three grandchildren – Kelsey Townrow, Harrison Cain, and Connor Cain, and a brother, Ronald Ragan (Janice). She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Marian and Marjorie; and three brothers, Roman, Wilson, and Robert.
No services will be held. Zelma will be laid to rest in Maryland at a later date. Cremation arrangements entrusted to Flanner Buchanan – Carmel.
