Wilma J. Nelson-Higgs

Wilma June Nelson-Higgs, 98, passed away on August 31, 2023. Wilma was born on October 15, 1924, to Oramel and Minnie Musgrave.

Wilma graduated in 1942 from Broad Ripple High School and was a member of the National Honor Society during WWII. Wilma worked for Army Map Services as a cartographic craftsman and was on a team that updated the map of the islands in the South Pacific.

Wilma married her sweetheart Les Nelson from North Dakota, who was a sailor. They had 3 children and enjoyed traveling, bowling, and golf.

Wilma is survived by her children, Larry (FloAnn) Nelson, Beverly Sharpe, and Don Nelson; four grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 2 great great granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions in Wilma’s name can be made out to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation or the American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).

Wilma's final resting place will be with her late husband, Les Nelson, at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
