William (Bill) John Ziegele died on September 10th, 2024 at the age of 84 years. He was born the son of German immigrant parents in Peoria, Illinois on August 13, 1940. Preceding him in death were his parents William and Louise Ziegele. He is survived by his wife Marilyn, his children Scott (Cindy) Ziegele, Michael (Sarah) Ziegele and Sarah (Jamie) Harlan; also 8 grandchildren Grace, Kaitlyn, Joshua, Jack, James, Julia, Matthew and Elyse.
Bill graduated from Richwoods High School in Peoria Heights, Illinois. At Valparaiso University he received a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. His education continued, achieving an MBA from Butler University. From 1963 to 1969 he served in the US Army Corps (Reserve) Indiana.
His accounting and finance career started at Ernest and Ernest, followed by employment at Jenn-Air Corporation for 27 years. He held several positions progressing to Vice President of Finance for Maytag, Jenn-Air and Magic Chef.
Throughout his life Bill was involved in community volunteer activities. He served as Treasurer and was on the executive board for Lutheran Child and Family Services. Additional memberships included boards and committees for Indianapolis Jaycees, United Way of Central Indiana, Indiana Manufacturers Association Taxation Committee and Indiana German Heritage Society president and board member. As a member of several Lutheran churches, he held various financial positions. Bill was a founding board member of Helping Challenged Children. He enjoyed many youth sports coaching roles and involvement in his children's sports activities. A lifelong interest was being involved with Boy Scouts. He was Scoutmaster of Troop 276 at Castleton United Methodist Church and was active in other Troop, District and Council leadership positions. A favorite scouting memory was his three hiking trips to Philmont Scout Ranch. In retirement years he remained active with a private accounting practice and taught courses at Indiana Wesleyan and Butler University. Bill was an avid sports fan of Butler and Valparaiso basketball, the St. Louis Cardinals, the Chicago Bears, the Indianapolis Colts, and followed multiple Big 10 teams. He enjoyed golfing, vacationing and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
