William Risley, 92, of Indianapolis, passed away June 13th, 2020. He was born May 27th, 1928 in Indianapolis.
Bill attended Arsenal Tech high school. In 1948, he joined the United States Navy and served his country until 1952.
He attended Landmark Baptist Church. Bill proudly help build the Landmark Church on Thompson road. He was the first to be baptized at that church.
Bill married Genell Risley on June 12th, 1955. They spent 58 wonderful years of marriage together.
In 1953, Bill began his career as a firefighter. He worked at Station 15 in Indianapolis until retiring as a Captain in 1983.
Bill was a friendly, loving man. He loved to tease. He enjoyed bowling and playing cards with his wife and friends. Bill loved working at the church. He and his wife looked forward to their yearly Florida, family vacations.
He adored his family and will be missed by all.
Bill is survived by his children, Deborah Higinbotham (Scott) and William Risley Jr; grandchildren Stephanie Knepley (Scott), Jennifer Zufelt, Jarrod Lee (Jen), David Risley, and Tayler Risley, nine great-grand children, one brother Walt Risley, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents Oliver and Lena (Brown) Hayworth, wife, Genell, siblings Helen Mabe, Jack Risley, Linda Risley Dreiling, and Mike Risley.
Visitation will be Saturday June 20th, 2020, from 10am-11am, at Flanner Buchanan- Memorial Park. Funeral service will begin at 11am. Bill will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Foundation for Prader-Willi Research (https://www.fpwr.org/donate), to honor Bill’s great-grandson, Jhett, who’s fighting Prader-Willi Syndrome.
