William P. Smith

William P. Smith, 79, of Indianapolis, IN was born June 11, 1937 and passed away February 12, 2017.

He was born in Wentz, Kentucky to Lige and Katie Bowling Smith. After graduating from high school, Bill served in the US Marine Corp. from 1957-1963. He retired from General Motors in 1992 after 30 years of service. After his retirement, he volunteered at Billie’s Food Pantry for over 15 years. He loved working with horses and telling a good story. He never met a stranger and looked for ways to help anyone in need.

He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Thomas Smith, Beatrice Sparkman, Lloyd Smith, Carlos Smith, David Smith, Thelma J. Eldridge and Astor Bowling. Surviving to cherish his memory are his children, Robin Smith and William A. Smith, his sister, Christine Pratt, brother, Noah R. Smith and his dogs, Molly and Jo Jo and all family and friends.
Friends may visit from 4-8 PM, Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Flanner and Buchanan – Floral Park, 425 N. Holt Road, Indianapolis 46222. The celebration of life with Military Honors will be at 10 AM Friday at Floral Park. Contributions may be made in Bill’s name to the Billie’s Food Pantry.
