William (Bill) R.T. Murray, age 85 of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Monday morning, October 14, 2024.
Bill was born on August 9, 1939 in Detroit, Michigan, to O.T. and Eva (Webb) Murray. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Gilbert Murray, and son, David Murray.
Bill attended Northern Michigan University earning his B.S. in Business Administration. He continued his education at Central Michigan University earning his M.A. in Business and Arts. Bill served his country for 22 years in the United States Air Force and later retired as a Captain in 1981 with honors. He went on to serve in the federal government, Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) in Indianapolis, IN, performing duties as a professional Accountant and retiring in 2007. Bill was a former President for the Indianapolis chapter for Blacks in Government (BIG). He was also an adjunct professor at Vincennes University and spent countless hours educating students after school at DFAS.
Bill met Christina Hart at a Black History dance in February of 1975. They married on July 5, 1975 in Columbus, Ohio. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years: Christina Murray of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Bill is survived by his sister: Sandra V. Murray; Bill’s four sons: Stephen Murray, Robert Murray, Craig (Angela) Murray, and Brian Murray. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In his younger years Bill played trumpet in the band. He was an avid sports fan and he loved the Indianapolis Colts, and he also cheered for his hometown Detroit Lions and the University of Michigan Wolverines.
As we say our final goodbyes to Bill Murray, we remember his unwavering dedication to his country and his remarkable service in the United States Air Force. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, reminding us all of the sacrifices made by our veterans and the importance of honoring their service.
At Bill’s wishes, Cremation Rites will be accorded and no memorial services will be held, but a casual gathering to celebrate Bill’s life may be held at a later date.
