William ‘Bill’ Taylor Engelmann, 77, peacefully passed away January 13, 2025 in Indianapolis with his family by his side.
He was born June 10, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois to Theodore George Engelmann, Jr, and Elinor May (Taylor) Engelmann. He married the love of his life, Carole Marie Greenwald, in Homewood, Illinois on August 22, 1981. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 43 years: Carole Engelmann of Indianapolis.
He served his country as a proud member of the United States Navy for seven years aboard the USS Long Beach and was later stationed in Guam. After being honorably discharged from the United States Navy, he served his community as a paramedic for 29 years in the Chicagoland area.
Bill loved spending time with his family and greatly enjoyed playing board games and basketball with his grandsons. Bill enjoyed making his granddaughter smile and cherished his time with his grandchildren.
Bill adored Carole, with whom he was married for over 43 years. He loved spending time with her on their back deck with a glass of wine in hand. Bill loved drinking craft beers and enjoying a meal with his family. He took an interest in photography and loved to travel around the country. He especially enjoyed visiting lighthouses and spending time in the Smoky Mountains on vacation. Bill was a loyal Chicago Bears, Bulls, White Sox, and Blackhawks sports fan and was able to attend many games. He was lucky enough to see Michael Jordan play in person.
Bill was an avid reader and gardener, he was an expert sudoku player. He often started each morning with a strong cup of coffee, a sudoku puzzle, and a prayer. He ended his days with reading chapters from his favorite authors. He loved listening to Chris Botti, a jazz artist who he saw live many times.
Bill served his community as a Deacon at the Geist Christian Church. He was always there to listen and did his best to help others in their time of need.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents. Bill is survived by his wife Carole; by his son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Jennifer; his son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Elizabeth; his grandson Grant; his grandson Ross; his granddaughter Madeline; his brother Theodore (Cheryl); and his brother Charles (Maria).
A visitation will be held on Monday, January 20, 2025 from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 PM at Flanner Buchanan - Geist Funeral Center, located at 7844 Cork Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46236.
His funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM. Pastor Ryan Hazen of Geist Christian Church will officiate.

A burial service will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at 1:30 PM (CENTRAL TIME) at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Bill to Shriners Hospitals for Children®, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or The Community Health Network Foundation.
