William Edward Kerbox, 93, passed away on November 17, 2017 at his residence in Lahaina, Hawaii surrounded by the love of his family.
Bill Kerbox was born in Indianapolis on May 25, 1924. He is the son of Reuben and Mayme Kerbox, both deceased. His sister, Betty Kerbox Buchanan, a lifelong Indianapolis resident, died in 2003. Bill was on the football and basketball teams at Shortridge HS and played football at Butler University. Bill served his country first as a Merchant Marine, then in the US Navy until 1946.
His three sons: Bill Kerbox, Jr., currently of Malibu, CA, Robbie Kerbox of Eureka Springs, AR, and Buzzy Kerbox of Haiku and Haleiwa, Oahu were born in Indianapolis, IN. In 1967 Bill sold his Indiana business, RF Insurance Agency, and moved his family to Kailua, Oahu. They sailed over on the ship SS Lurline, arriving on King Kamehameha Day. There he started another successful business, Jiffy Set, a louver door and window supply shop in Honolulu.
On December 6, 1972 in Kailua, Bill married Barbara Witthans of Honolulu, increasing the family to five children with Debbie Sawyer currently of Kula, Maui, and Tom Witthans of Hilo, HI. They moved to Lahaina in 2000.
Bill is survived by his wife Barbara Kerbox and his five children. Bill and Barbara are also blessed with 11 grandchildren: Alec (24), Chase (17), and Kea Lani (9) Kerbox; Angela (29) and Christina (24) Sawyer; Kody (23), Kasey (21) and Kyler (15) Kerbox; and Sienna (22) Bryn and Ryan (both 19) Witthans. They have one great-grandson, Westin (9). Bruce W. Buchanan, the owner of Flanner Buchanan, is the nephew of William Kerbox.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at the recreational center located at Puukolii in Lahaina, HI.
