William Charles Stiegelmeyer

William C. Stiegelmeyer, 79, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on June 8, 2018. He was born July 05, 1938 to Robert and Leona Stiegelmeyer; one of four children.

He was born and raised in Indianapolis and graduated from Manual High School in 1956. He married wife Suzanne in 1966 and remained happily married until her passing March 19, 1991. William worked for IPD (now IMPD) for 22 years as a Police Detective Sgt. until his retirement in 1984. He spent 16 years working security for IPL as well as 12 years in the Indiana Army National Guard. Family remembers him as an “ornery” man who was set in his ways. He was described as a man who did what he wanted, when he wanted, and didn’t care what anyone thought about it. Though he could be brash and outspoken, he was always kind to those around him.  He will be greatly missed by all those he touched during his time on earth.

He is predeceased by his parents, Robert and Leona; wife, Suzanne; brother, Robert; and sister-in-law, Peggy.  Surviving to cherish his memory are children, Sherrill Hansell, Steven (Tanya) Stiegelmeyer, Lisa Roberts, Michelle (Doug) Gessner; siblings, Edward (Judy) and John; 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

A private family memorial gathering will be held June 12, 2018.
