William C. Bugher

On Feb. 13, 2020, William Charles (Bill) Bugher, loving husband and father, passed away at age 88, surrounded by family. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Alice; father, Charles; mother, (Mary) Theresa; and brothers Larry and Richard. He is survived by his nine children – Mary Valdez (Don); Ellen Miller (Harold); Robert (Jan); Janet Smith (Darrell); Daniel (Randee); David (Matthew); Stephen (Patty); Thomas (Sheri); and Susan Marvin (Brian) – as well as by his brother, James (Lyn), and two nephews. He was grandfather to 15 and great-grandfather to six.

Bill was born on Feb. 27, 1931, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He graduated from Cathedral High School and St. Joseph’s College. On Sept. 29, 1956, he married Alice Theresa Greene. Bill enjoyed golf, playing year-round in Indianapolis until age 87; fishing; attending and volunteering at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church; and spending time with his sizeable family. A devout Catholic, Bill persistently developed his faith and morality, lived by the Golden Rule, put others before himself, and demanded honesty and doing the right thing from himself and his family. He led by example, embedding strong moral character in each of his children.

Bill cherished his wife, Alice, demonstrating the meaning of love and commitment. He took pride in his physical wellbeing and considered it important to be available to his family, making it a priority to gather the family and work through any issues that arose. His strong personality, quest for knowledge, dry wit and keen observation of people continued to the end of his life. Bill expressed no regrets with his life, which included a long career as an insurance adjuster and manager with the General Adjustment Bureau (GAB).

Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, in the vestibule of St. Gabriel, 6000 W. 34th St., Indianapolis, followed by a funeral Mass. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
