A man of faith and family, William “Billy” Weston Bassett Jr., 49, of Westfield was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 26, 2024. He was born December 17, 1974, in Kokomo, which he referred to as “God’s Country”. He was the only son of William Weston Bassett Sr. and Sharon Ellen (Siegesmund) Bassett. He married his college sweetheart, Nicole Rae Miller, on June 2, 2007. They would later have three beautiful daughters making Billy the ultimate “girl dad”.
Billy was a 1993 graduate of Kokomo High School. He loved being a Varsity KAT basketball player, so he continued playing in college at Marian University for two years. He transferred to Purdue where he completed his bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership and Supervision. He was a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity, where he met life-long friends and saw his future wife for the first time. Upon graduation, Billy worked in the pharmaceutical & medical device sales industry, including Schering-Plough, Biomet, Stryker, DJO, and Heraeus. He developed great friendships with his colleagues, orthopedic surgeons, and staff he worked with. Billy and Nicole built their family with a strong foundation of faith as a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Kokomo and Northview Church in Carmel. Billy attended the Great Banquet and completed 7 years of Bible Study Fellowship learning the word of God.
Billy’s love of sports continued through his three girls. He was the ultimate sounding board and rock for Audrey and Gabby on the volleyball court. He loved watching Caroline run past every kid on the soccer field and her fire in volleyball. He loved coaching basketball for Gabby, but also for all the girls of the Lady Rocks, IGB, PAC Flight North, Always 100, and West Virginia Thunder. Besides his own children, they were his pride and joy.
Billy was an avid Purdue fan, just like his father and in-laws. He was a season ticket holder for football and basketball. He couldn’t wait to see the Boilers win a National Championship. He also had a love for the Indy 500 and attended every year with his buddies. He loved his local Colts and Pacers and would go to any game he could. He loved spending time at the family lake house at Lake Maxinkuckee in Culver. Another special place for him and his family was at the family condo in North Redington Beach, Florida. This was like a second home to him. Billy was also an animal lover. He always knew how to pick the right dog, and “his Major,” is the perfect example of that.
He was a devoted son, husband, dad, brother, son-in-law, brother-in-law, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Nicole Bassett, three daughters Audrey Rae, Gabriella Faith, and Caroline Alyce Bassett; mother, Sharon Bassett; two sisters, Sara (David) Sullivan and Brenda (Scott) Read; father and mother-in-law, Denny and Linda Miller; sister-in-law, Natalie (Shawn) Brown; and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was proceeded in passing by his father, William Weston Bassett Sr.
