William Earl Bennett

December 27, 1931 — October 26, 2024

Fishers

Fishers, Indiana – William Earl Bennett, 92, passed away on October 26, 2024. Earl was born on December 27, 1931, to parents Bennie & Alice (Brown) Bennett in Portland, Tennessee.

Earl graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis, where he met and shortly after graduating, married Bonnie Pitts. Earl joined the military to provide for them both where he proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He then went on to work for Edison Brother’s Shoe Company for over 40 years until his retirement. He also worked for the Indianapolis Public Library in the book retrieval section for over 15 years, a job he deeply loved. He was a longtime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Moose Lodge #17, The American Legion, and Fraternal Order of the Eagles.

Earl enjoyed spending his time maintaining an immaculate yard, watching the Colts play football, and setting up his Christmas decorations at home. A talented handyman, he could watch a repairman once and never need to call them again. He’ll also be remembered for his love of karaoke and how amazing of a singer he was.

Most of all, Earl was a caregiver who spent his life devoted to others. Not only to Bonnie but also to his second love Wanita, who also has passed, to his parents at the end of their lives, and to anyone else who ever needed him including his country. Earl was the man you could always count on to be there for you. His selflessness and quick wit will be deeply and fondly missed.

In addition to his parents, Earl is preceded in death by his first love Bonnie Bennett and second, Wanita Bennett, his son William Randall Bennett, and brothers Leo and Harold Bennett.

Earl is survived by his daughters Debra Hayworth (Buzz), Karen McGuire, and son Steven Bennett (Denise); sister Mary Walker (Skip); 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East (10722 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46229) from 11 am – 1 pm with funeral services following. Chaplain Rob Mifflin will be presiding. Entombment will take place at Washington Park East Cemetery.
