Wiley Buck Tew, Jr. of Indianapolis, IN passed away on April 29, 2021 at the age of 76. Wiley was born in Erwin, NC on September 15, 1944 to parents, Wiley Buck and Lucille (Keen) Tew. He graduated from Pine Forest High School in Fayetteville, NC before serving his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, working on missiles. While stationed in Texas, Wiley met the love of his life, Terrianne Wheeler. The two were married the day after he was discharged from the Air Force and moved to North Carolina to begin their married life.
Wiley wrote in high school of his goal to be an electrical engineer after school which he achieved in his career with IBM. Wiley spent most of his career at IBM in various positions. He retired from IBM as an inventory specialist/manager. Following retirement, Wiley utilized his inventory control skills in his employment for Wheeler Services, Universal Minerals, and Hydro-Chem.
Wiley was an avid reader, often finishing a book in only one day. He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Houston Astros and any team of his grandchildren. Wiley and Terri loved taking cruises (at least a couple times a year) and visiting ball parks across the United States. He was a member of the McDonald’s “Board of Directors” and could always be found conversing with his beloved friends over breakfast and a large Diet Coke. He cherished his time with his grandkids and spent time each summer with them at “Gramps Camp”.
Wiley was preceded in death by his parents and his two sisters, Vernell Porter and Alma Pollard. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Terrianne Tew; children: Kenneth Tew (Anda) of Kettering and Sherry Minie (Chris) of Zionsville; grandchildren: Seth, Riley, and Corinne Tew and Sarah and Emily Minie; and numerous other extended family members and beloved friends.
Visitation will be held from 10 am to 12 noon, Friday, May 7, 2021 at Flanner Buchanan – Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Conner Suite), 9700 Allisonville Road, where funeral services will immediately follow beginning at 12 noon. His burial will be private in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. You are invited to make contributions to MD Anderson Cancer Center in his memory.
