It is with great sadness that the family of Wilbur Hayden Shortridge Jr. announce his passing. Wilbur died November 27, 2020. He will be deeply missed.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday Dec. 2,2020 at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Home in Speedway, IN.
He was born February 25, 1928 in Jacksonville, FL to Wilbur Hayden and Mary Jane Shortridge Sr.
Wilbur had one sibling, Marjorie Linder. He moved from Florida to Indiana at the age 14. He attended Warren Central High School. He was very athletic and enjoyed playing football.
He loved IU basketball!!! Was a devoted fan!!!
Wilbur joined Naval Reserves and was called into the Korean War where he proudly served his country.
While in the Navy, stationed in Norfolk, VA he met and married his beautiful wife Mary Jane Carter Shortridge. They were married 44 years.
Wilbur was number one salesman for Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company. He was an accomplished pilot and loved flying his plane. Flying him to numerous hunting and fishing destinations! He loved his Bird Dogs too! He was president of the National Shoot to Retrieve Association. Long time member of Chapel Rock Christian Church, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Shriners,VFW, American Legion, Conservation Birddog Club including Glenn Valley and Pike County.
Wilbur is survived by his nieces and nephews. Shirley Weaver(Tom) Carol Snow(Art) Fred Linder(Deloris) Mary Jane Kovacik(Dale) Billy Linder(Tammy) and Blessed with numerous great and great great nieces and nephews!
