Wesley J. Murphy of Indianapolis entered eternal rest on October 20, 2018 at the age of 91.

He was born April 23, 1927 in Indianapolis to the late Clyde Wayne Murphy and Elizabeth Marie Dickson Murphy.

Wesley served his country during WWII in the US Army Air Corp. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Indiana University. He was a Fulbright Scholar studying in Pakistan, received the Lilly Fellowship and studied in Edinburgh, Scotland. He spent his career as an educator retiring in 1989 from Arsenal Tech. After retirement he worked for Avis for almost 20 years. His memberships include the Masonic Lodge at Brookside for over 50 years and former memberships in the American Legion – Greenfield Post, Murat Shrine Cast, and the Scottish Rite. He was also a member of the Sports Car Club of America and was an amateur radio operator. An avid traveler, Wesley visited over 75 countries throughout six continents. He had a passion for family trips, trains, watching science fiction, playing pub trivia, and watching Jeopardy.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years Mary Judith Murphy; daughters Cheryl Lee Murphy Bovee (Michael) and Miriam Ann Murphy (Terry Prall); granddaughters Laura Marie Bovee Bukovics (Andrew) and Michelle Bovee Pomeroy (Andrew); and great-granddaughter Kaylee Hana Bukovics.

Graveside services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, October 26 at Washington Park East Cemetery, 10612 E. Washington St, Indianapolis.

In honor of his love for his cats Angel, Victoria, and Paddington memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the Humane Society of Indianapolis, 7929 Michigan Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46268.
