Wayne Alton Brodhecker, 98 of Avon, Indiana (formerly Lawrence) went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 10. He was born in Princeton, Indiana.
Wayne served as a Navy Lieutenant during World War II, and as a radar/communications officer saved his destroyer the USS McGowan from attack by diverting plans in response to intelligence. He was very modest and did not often talk about his role in the war, but he was a hero.
He traveled to Washington, DC in 2015 with his wife Betty to view the new WWII Memorial as a guest of Indy Honor Flight. His daughter and son-in-law were guardians on the trip, which provided lifetime memories. He was greeted upon return by his daughter, grandchildren, and family friends.

Wayne attended Hanover, Indiana and Purdue Universities where he obtained his degree in engineering. It was during his time at Indiana University he met his wife Betty, with whom he built a life and raised three children. Wayne had a long career with Naval Avionics.
Wayne will be remembered by his love for his family, his involvement in his church and community activities (Indianapolis Symphony, golf at Ft. Harrison and Indian Lake) and the close friendships he had with neighbors and others. He had opportunities for travel and enjoyed a long retirement, wintering in Venice, Florida.
Wayne is survived by his 3 children, John (wife Jody), Sandy, (Bob) and Cheryl (husband Brian) , 4 grandchildren, Mike, (Amber) John, (Melissa), Gregg (Heather) and Danielle, (David), 8 great-grandchildren and nephew Dwight (Tammy).
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty, and his sister Joanne.
A visitation will be held at Flanner and Buchanan—Floral Park 425 N. Holt Rd, on Wednesday, May 22 from 10-11AM with services following at 11AM. Wayne will be laid to rest at in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon, IN.
