Dr. Ward Elias Poulos, 77, of Indianapolis, passed away January 22, 2024. He was born March 19, 1946, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Elias Anest Poulos and Julia Adelaide (Renfrew) Poulos.
Ward grew up in Indianapolis graduating from Thomas Carr Howe High School in 1964. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity at Indiana University-Bloomington. Ward graduated from Indiana University-Bloomington in 1968 and from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1971. He completed his internship and residency at Grady and Emory Hospitals in Atlanta, GA. He served his community as a pediatrician on the west side of Indianapolis for over 50 years.
He met Sue Ellen (Amick) while they were students at Howe. They married in 1969 and had two children Christina Louise (Gregory Roach) and Ward Andrew (Samira Sconiers). Following their divorce in 1989, Ward met and married Juliet Beth (Gaddis) in 1990 and had a daughter, Diana Rae.
Ward was a passionate golfer and enjoyed reading, collecting books, playing the piano, and photography.
He is survived by his three children, his granddaughters Olive Brynn and Kitley Bay, his brother Ross, his sister Gloria Heath (Poulos), his nieces Justine Trauner (Faith), Kathryn Faith, and Lauren Heath, and numerous cousins in the Wolfe, Osborne, and Major families with whom he shared many experiences and lifelong memories of their time together at Lake Webster.
He is preceded in death by his wife Juliet in 2020, his sister Julie Poulos Faith in 2011, his brother-in-law Mark Faith in 2022, his mother Julia in 1991, and his father Elias in 2005.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greater Indiana Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org/indiana or the Sierra Club at act.sierraclub.org.
A memorial visitation will be held on March 30, 2024, at Flanner Buchanan - Washington Park East from 12 pm to 2 pm with a Memorial Service to follow at 2 pm. Ward will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery immediately following.
