Wanda (Viles) Dodson passed away in Newburgh, Indiana on December 1, 2020. She was eighty-one.
A lifelong resident of Indianapolis, she was raised on the westside and attended Drexel Garden grade school and Ben Davis Junior high school. A devout Christian, she attended Apostolic Bible Church where she taught a children’s Sunday school class for eleven years.
Most of her life was devoted to raising her sons and making a home for her family, and caring for her cats, Sammy, Tiger and Sissie. In later years, she was employed with Marriot Hotel corporation and the department of Indiana Revenue. She was also a loving grandmother to her two grandsons, Christopher and Sean, and spent time traveling to places as diverse as Alaska and the Caribbean.
She came from a long, multi-generational, line of police officers, all of whom served with the Indianapolis Police Department and was married to Robert Dodson, a retired Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy.
Wanda was proceeded in death by her mother Daisy (Earl) Viles, her father Lester Viles and her brother Robert, and sisters Frances Neece and Betty Catt.
She is survived by her husband Robert Dodson, two sons, Brandt (Karla) and Scott, and her two grandchildren, Christopher and Sean. A celebration of life ceremony will be held at Flanner Buchanan-Floral Park on Monday, December 7, 2020 at 2 pm with visitation from 1 pm till service time. Burial will follow at Floral Park Cemetery.
