Wanda Lee Hargis, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2025, in Franklin, Indiana, at the age of 87. Born on May 23, 1937, in Scottsville, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Edward and Ruby Ailene Lloyd Shelton. Wanda’s life journey, marked by unwavering love and devotion, to her husband of 53 years, Charles E. Hargis and her family, that has left an indelible impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

 Wanda was known as an amazing mother and a cherished Nanny, not only to her biological family but also to many in her neighborhood and church. Her warmth and vibrant spirit brought joy to countless lives, making her truly the life of the party. Family was everything to her and her legacy lives on in each of her family members and others she touched with her love.

Wanda had a passion for storytelling, often sharing tales of her life, the joys she experienced, and the hardships she bravely overcame, which shaped her into the wonderful person she became. Her cooking was another beloved aspect of her life, with family gatherings filled with the delightful aroma of her favorite dishes. Fried Chicken, Fried Rice, Pork Chops, and Jambalaya were among the treasured recipes she prepared for family cookouts and dinners, bringing everyone together around the dining table.

Wanda was a faithful member of Charity Church, where she served as a leader with the Youth and dedicated herself to the role of a longtime Sunday School Teacher. As a VIP Leader and Senior Saints Leader, she shared her love for the Lord and her passion for service with all around her. Known as the unofficial head cook of the church, she poured her heart into nurturing her community both spiritually and through her much-loved cooking.

She is survived by her loving son, Audie Swegman, and daughter-in-law, Lisa Swegman; son Chuck Hargis and daughter-in-law Jackie Hargis; daughter Kristie Winbun and son-in-law Rob Winbun. Wanda's legacy continues through her wonderful grandchildren: Stephanie, Collin (Taylor), Chelsie, Corey, Quinn, John, Tina, William, Kevin, Taylor, and Logan (Chelsey), along with her cherished great-grandchildren: Ady, Charles, Amelia, Knox, Kyler, Hanna, Hudson, Arabela, Colton, Preston, Isaiah, and Elias, who all carry a piece of her loving spirit within them.

Wanda is also survived by her sister, Rebecca Coulombe, and brothers, Mackie Shelton and Joe Shelton. She was greeted in heaven by her parents, her beloved husband Charles E. Hargis, and her sister Beverly Honeycutt, who undoubtedly welcomed her with open arms.

Visitation for Wanda Lee Hargis will be held on February 25, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and again on February 26, 2025, from 11:00AM to 12:00 PM at Charity Church, located at 2700 South Tibbs Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana. A funeral service will follow on February 26, 2025, from 12:00 PM, with a burial service at Floral Park Cemetery.

Wanda Lee Hargis's life was a testament to love, faith, and the joy of family. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched.
