Walter (“Walt”) J. Hamilton of Indianapolis, Indiana died in his home on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at the age of 93.
Walt was born in the province of Manitoba, Canada in March of 1928 to Elizabeth and Walter Thomas Hamilton. After graduating high school, Walt joined the United States Army Air Corps and served in both World War II and the Korean War. After honorably leaving the military, he attended the University of Oregon. He became an air traffic controller and moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where he worked at the Indianapolis Air Route Traffic Control Center for over 30 years before retiring. After retirement, he co-founded C & H tax accounting firm.
While bowling, he met Dorothy Sanders and married her in November of 1957. They raised five children and were parishioners of St. Monica Catholic Church for over 50 years.
Walt enjoyed cooking and listening to music and was a life-long fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved his grandchildren, all things Irish and arguing politics. Walt was very proud of his Canadian and Irish roots.
Walt was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy. He is survived by his children Elaine (Dale), Nancy (Bruce), Gary (Teresa), Laura (Pete), and Janice along with his grandchildren Megan (Evan), Andrew, Michael, Alex, Hannah, Jacqueline, Margot and Jack, along with a host of nieces and nephews.
A private family service will be held Thursday, January 20, 2022.
The family wishes to extend its sincerest gratitude to the many caregivers for their care and compassion which allowed Walt to spend his final years in his home. The family would also like to give special thanks to Pat Goralski for his weekly Sunday visits to read scripture and give communion.
