Walter H. Smock, Jr.

87, of Bradenton, FL, passed away Friday, June 30, 2017 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield. Walter was born in Bloomfield, IN on September 18, 1929 to his parents, Walter Smock, Sr. and Catherine (Dunning) Smock.

Walter served his country honorably in the US Army during the Korean War. After serving, Walter went on to work for General Motors in Purchasing. He loved his job and worked for GM for over 30 years, retiring in1992. Walter was a hardworking man, not only at work but also at home. He could always be found working on something around the house or in the yard. Aside from his work, he also enjoyed playing cards, especially Euchre. Walter retired to Florida, where he was a member of a Euchre Club, playing at least twice a week. He also loved to travel with a retiree group that he was a part of.

Walter was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann (Davis) Smock; father, Walter Smock Sr; mother, Catherine Smock (Dunning); sister, Jacqueline “Jackie” Matzke; and granddaughter, Sarah Church.

Walter is survived by his daughter, Michele Church (Ronald); son, Mitchell Smock (Pamela); and son, Michael Smock. Walter is also survived by 5 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and a brother, James Smock.

A memorial service will be held at 3pm on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Flanner and Buchanan- Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis, where friends may call from 2-3pm prior to services. Inurnment will be private in Washington Park East Cemetery.
