Walter Charles Boyd, 100, passed away peacefully July 17th, 2024. He was born in Washington, Indiana, to parents Walter and Josephine (Fitch) Boyd.
Walter proudly served his country during World War II, in the United States Navy.
In December 1946, Walter married the love of his life, Betty Fortner. They shared 61 wonderful years together. Betty passed away in 2008.
Walter worked as an operations manager in the trucking industry, at Roadway, then at Turner Trucking, where he retired.
He and Betty made their home on the East side of Indianapolis, where they were members of Irvington Presbyterian Church. They were avid travelers, seeing countries across the world. Walter and Betty enjoyed spending time with their family and friends. Walter was a member of the Scottish Rite. He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and mushroom hunting. He and his best friend Jack spent countless hours fishing together.
He is survived by his daughters Joyce Boyd, Barbara Watson (Dennis); niece Sherry Overpeck (Tim) and nephew Alan Fortner; his cousin Judy Bursken; and his “adoptive” family, the Watsons.
He is preceded in death by his wife Betty; his parents; and his brother W. Benjamin Boyd.
Visitation for Walter will be Tuesday July 23rd, from 11-1pm at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East. His funeral will begin at 1pm. He will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorial contributions may be made to Indy Honor Flight, Little Red Door Cancer Agency, or a charity of your choice.
