Wallace “Wally” Gordon Renn, 90, Fishers, passed away February 5, 2023. Wally was born in Calumet, MI, to Gordon and Erma Uren. Wally was the first born son. He was “kept busy”, tending to 100 chickens, splitting wood, and shoveling lots of snow (200+ inches every winter). As an older boy, he worked moving furniture at his father’s furniture store. Most importantly, he did his homework and graduated at all levels of school with honors. During college, he worked summers in a copper mine. He was the last of many generations to work underground. The mines were hazardous and uncomfortable hard work. Through high school and Michigan Tech he was a ROTC Army cadet. Upon graduation in Mechanical Engineering, he served his commission in the US Army Corps of Engineers. During the Korean war, he was stationed nearby in Japan. He was promoted to executive officer in charge of 200 US Army and Japanese soldiers. They were involved in the reconstruction efforts in a large vicinity of Japan.
Wallace met Haruko (Judy) Kobayashi. They were married in her hometown (Japanese tradition), again at the US consulate, and a third time in his hometown in Michigan.
After the Army, he began his career at General Motors. He was promoted and transferred several times. He started as a plant engineer, and after 39 years, he retired as General Director of Operations at Allison Transmission Division in Indianapolis.
Wallace honored God as a loving, devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gordon and Erma, first wife of 41 years, Judy (Haruko), and younger brother, Leslie.
Survivors include his second wife of 24 years, Helga, children, Tom (JoAnn), Gordy (Kari), and Carolyn Kinsey (Chris), grandchildren Bryant (Sarah), Jessica, Lauralyn (Paul), Christina (James), Jordan, Whitney, Parker, Mitchell, great-grandchildren Trent, Noah, Alexander and Ethan.
