Vivian Saxton

June 2, 1924 — July 20, 2017

Vivian Saxton, 93, of Speedway, joined the Lord on the glorious day of July 20, 2017. She was born to Victor and Mathilda (Tillie) Jacobson on June 2,1924, in East Grand Forks, MN. Vivian served as President of the Speedway Parent Teachers Association, was involved as an adult leader and Neighborhood Cookie Chairman for Girl Scouts, was involved in Early Birds Homemakers, and served as Education Coordinator and Christian Service Volunteer at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church. She worked part-time at Hook's Drugs helping people select greeting cards for their loved ones. She earned a Community Award from Hook's Drugs. Vivian enjoyed baking banana bread and making rice pudding for others. She grew up on a farm and used to milk cows by hand. She loved to tell the story of how she was 2 pounds when she was born, and her mother put her in a cigar box near the stove to keep her warm. They did not expect her to live, but she lived a long life of serving others.

She is preceded in death by her husband Charles J. Saxton, her parents, her brother Herman V. Jacobson (East Grand Forks, MN) and her sister Clarice Lee (Aneta, ND). She is survived by her sister Delores Anderson of Minnetonka, Minnesota, her daughter, Charlene (Bill) Underwood of West Chester, PA; her daughter, Chris Saxton of Cranberry Township, PA; her son, Wayne (Madonna) Saxton of Irvine, CA; and her daughter, Patti (David) Ensley of Greenwood, IN. Vivian is also survived by her five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Her visitation will be Saturday, August 5, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a service following at 1 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, 6118 Crawfordsville Road, Speedway, Indiana 46224. Entombment will follow in Washington Park North Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, the Alzheimers Association, and Heartland Hospice.
