Vincent Joseph Scheller (94) of Westfield, Indiana died December 20, 2022. Born in 1928 in Indianapolis to the late Frank and Mary Scheller, Vince is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Carol O’Brien Scheller and 5 living children. He was predeceased by son Michael in 1994, brother Robert Scheller and sisters Dorothy Scheller, Toni Connor and Rita Huettl.
Survivors include daughters, Maureen Coffin, Beth Green (Mike), and sons Stephen (Maureen Costello), David (Ann Marie Games), Tom (Paula Blackmon). Nine grandchildren survive: Mary Kuhl (Tyler), Caitlin VanDerKlok (Ross), Charlie (Marcella Hoard), Steve, Drew Green (Jessica Sidebottom), Quinn, Tori Mattingly (Chase), Olivia Games, David Coffin. Three great-grandchildren survive: James, Brooks, and Wesley as well as many nieces and nephews.
Vince graduated from Cathedral High School in 1946 and served in the U.S. Army for 2 years before attending and graduating from Purdue University in 1952. As a mechanical engineer he worked for P.R. Mallory Company and RCA/GE retiring in 1987. After retirement he worked as a consultant for General Motors/Delco in Kokomo, Indiana.
Throughout his life, Vince was active in Catholic Theatre Guild, activities of his 6 children including Boy Scouts and sports. He was also a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. In his free time he enjoyed family travels including camping trips, gardening, and U.S. history.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 2:30pm on Friday, January 13, 2023, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Carmel, Indiana, with visitation there from 1:30pm to 2:30pm. Mass will be followed by a celebration of his life at a location to be determined. The family gives their profound thanks for the loving care of Maxim home care nurses over the years, especially Elizabeth, Marie Claire and Kia. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Doctors Without Borders, Meals on Wheels Indianapolis, or a charity of your choice.
