Verlon “Bud” Essig, 90 of Indianapolis, passed away on August 19, 2019. He was born in Kokomo, IN in 1929. Bud was a graduate of Mansfield HS in Mansfield, OH before joining the US Navy. After serving in the Korean conflict he returned to Indianapolis to marry Barbara J. Tate in 1952. Together they raised five children: Debbie, Cindy, Cheryl, Dede and Scott.
Bud retired from a civil service career at Naval Avionics in 1985. He and Barb moved to Florida in 1986 and then returned to Indiana in 2009. Bud was an aviation enthusiast and flew rescue missions for Civil Air Patrol.
Bud is survived by his wife Barbara, daughters; Debbie Essig of Muncie, IN, Cindy Essig of Indianapolis, IN, Cheryl Essig Schopmeyer (John) of Talbot, TN, Dede Essig Lane of Kennesaw, GA and son, Scott Essig of Indianapolis, IN. He is also survived by six grandchildren; Amanda, Mitch and Madison Schopmeyer and Kristin, Kelli and Kacie Lane.
