Ltc Verlin L. Abbott Ret.

Verlin L. Abbott, LTC, Retired, USA, 63, of Carmel, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017. He was born June 24, 1954, in St. Joseph, MO, the son of Verlin M. and Mary Lou (Johnston) Abbott. He married Margaret Svetlik on August 2, 1996.

Verlin received his Bachelor of Science in 1976 from the University of Missouri. Also, that year he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. He proudly and honorably served for the next 20 years, until his retirement in 1997. He was an active member of the American Legion China Post 1, Military Officers Association of America, and served as a board member of the Flying Tigers 69th DRS Association. Verlin was passionate about motorcycles and travelling the country. He also enjoyed flying drones and building model rockets. In 2015, he joined Indianapolis Funeral Escort, where he was able to combine his love of motorcycles and serving others.

He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Margaret Abbott; daughter, Crystal Abbott (Allen Jr.) Himes; father, Verlin (Marie) Abbott; siblings, Vince (Vickie) Abbott, Von (Debbie) Abbott, Verlinda (Bill) Heffel, Vicki (Bradley) Stain, and Vyron (Heather) Abbott; brothers and sisters-in-law, Colonel Mary Anne Svetlik, COL, Retired, USA, (Tony Blieberger, LTC, Retired, USA), Frank (Barbara) Svetlik, Harvey (Linda) Svetlik, George (Mary Ellen) Svetlik; and 22 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in passing by his mother, Mary Lou Abbott.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, August 13, 2017, at Flanner and Buchanan – Carmel, 325 East Carmel Drive. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 14, 2017, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund, P.O.
