Resident of Greenwood, IN and Deerfield Beach, FL

June, as she was known, was born in Indianapolis, IN, the daughter of the late Martha McIntyre Carpenter and William J. Carpenter. She was the sister of Dr. William Carpenter, Jr, (deceased) of Indianapolis, IN (Mary); Gerald Carpenter of Mulberry, IN (Darlene); Kay Carpenter Birden of Yulee, FL (Wes); Susie Carpenter Bibler of Indianapolis, IN (David).
She was married to David Benton Kemp, known as Ben, for 59 years and was blessed with 4 children: David B. Kemp, Jr. of Indianapolis, IN; Laurie Kemp Coop of Greenwood, IN (Mike); Melinda Kemp Grissom of New Palestine, IN (Tim) and Christian Kemp of Fishers, IN (Tracy). June was proud of her 9 grandchildren (6 granddaughters and 3 grandsons). She also had 1 great grandson along with 14 nieces and nephews.
June graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis, IN. She sang with the Elizabeth Kaltz Singers at Tech H.S., the Country Travelers and Westlake Church Singers. She and Ben regularly sang with Leo and Phyllis Fisher at the Little Nashville Opry in Nashville, IN.
June worked at Sexton Foods as a Quality Control Lab Technician. Among other jobs at Sexton, she was the official “Jello Taster”. She also sold World Book Encyclopedias, led her local Girl Scout troop, and was a member of the Purdue Extension Homemakers for 9 years. She also worked in sales for Eureka Vacuums in addition to working in the offices of State Farm Insurance and Kemp’s Appliances.
June was active in Christian education and was a charter member of The Associates of Indianapolis Christian Schools, where she helped to raise money to support students and teachers. She was a member of the former Westlake Church of Christ in Indianapolis, as well as attending the West Broward Church of Christ in Plantation, FL. Most recently, she attended Indian Creek Christian Church in Indianapolis.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital or the American Diabetes Association.
ARRANGEMENTS
Visitation, Funeral and Burial will be at Flanner and Buchanan Washington Park East in Indianapolis, IN.
