Tracy Maria Axson was born November 16, 1964 in Detroit, Michigan to Jacqueline Axson and Douglas Gaddy. Tracy was educated in the Indianapolis Public School system at IPS #75. She attended Northwest High School from 1979-1983. Tracy attended Ivy Tech for 1 ½ years. Her major was Accounting. Tracy was known by Tra, Daughter, Mama and Sis but her favorite title was Nana. Tracy was known for being a hard worker, one that loved her family and friends. Those of us who were blessed to have her as a friend knew that we were family as well. Tracy did not just take care of her mother, she also took care of other seniors in the community. She helped others if possible. Her daughter, Tia, was born in 1991 in Indianapolis, IN. The most precious thing to her was her daughter and granddaughter Ka’Miyah (aka Butt Butt). They were her heart. Tracy accepted Christ in 1988. She joined Phillips Temple CME in 1988 and attended there until her untimely passing. She was active at Phillips Temple on the Usher Board No. 1. Because Tracy enjoyed serving God as an usher, she wanted her daughter to have the same experience. Tracy loved the church and youth. She became a volunteer parent for the Young Usher Board along with the Drill Team, where she served for 1 ½ years. Tracy worked hard for her family from the time she graduated from high school. In her early years, she worked at Safeway Cleaning Company and George I. Cram Global Co. Yet, the job she dedicated her life to was an Indianapolis Public School Custodian at Shortridge High School, Arsenal Technical High School, William Penn Elementary IPS #49, Clarence Farrington Elementary School IPS #61, Carl Wilde Elementary IPS #79 and Daniel Webster Elementary IPS #46. Tracy was planning to retire next year. Tracy departed this life on September 5, 2019, at the age of 54 years old. She was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Eugene Jones, two aunts and a cousin. Tracy leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Jacqueline Axson, daughter Tia Axson, granddaughter Ka’Miyah Mitchell and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Family and friends are invited to visit Saturday, September 14 from 9-11 AM at Phillips Temple CME Church, 210 E 34th St, Indianapolis, IN 46205. Funeral services will begin at 11 AM with Pastor Oliver D. Walker. Tracy will be laid to rest at Floral Park Cemetery immediately following services. Yeah though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil. Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. (Psalm 23:4)
