Toshiko (Shimada) Hatcher departed this life on April 28, 2022, to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and reunited with her husband Ronald Philip Hatcher in the life to come.
Toshiko was born in Kanagawa Ken, Japan, on September 15, 1948, to parents Daniel Stuck and Yoneko Shimada. She grew up in Japan and met Ronald Hatcher, then serving in the U.S. Army stationed at Camp Zama near Tokyo. They were married in Japan on October 9, 1969, before moving to the United States. Toshiko proudly became an American citizen in 1976, in Washington D.C.
She and Ron raised their two children, Emiko and Ryan, while he served on active duty in the U.S. Army for 23 years. She also worked for Chase Bank of Japan, Rawlins House nursing home in Pendleton, Indiana, and Meijer grocery store in Indianapolis. After her retirement and Ron’s passing in 2008, her greatest joy was caring for her two grandchildren, Keiko and Curtis, to whom she was lovingly devoted.
Since being baptized in Jesus Christ in 1999, Toshiko was a faithful member of Servants of Christ Lutheran Church in Indianapolis, Indiana. She loved her church family and was involved in many church ministries including children’s ministry, vocal choir, and caring for the prayer garden. She cherished all of the children who attended worship, Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School at Servants of Christ, and she was the Godmother of Becca Anderson.
Left to remember and celebrate her life with joyful thanksgiving are her children: Emiko Kreklau and Ryan Hatcher; grandchildren: Keiko and Curtis Kreklau; her mother Yoneko Shimada, brothers- and sisters-in-law: Sue Hatcher, Randall Hatcher, Rex and Kandace Hatcher, Ragan and Toni Hatcher, Lisa and Kazuhiko Sato; and many dearly beloved nieces and nephews of the Hatcher family. She is preceded in death by her husband Ronald Hatcher, father Daniel Stuck, parents-in-law: Ralph L. and Anna M. Hatcher; and brothers-in-law: Ralph E. Hatcher and Roger A. Hatcher.
Visitation will be at Servants of Christ Lutheran Church on Wednesday, May 11th, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the funeral service at 1 p.m. EDT. She will be laid to rest on May 12th at 2 p.m. CDT at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois, with her husband.
