Tommie S. Sievert
91, passed away peacefully in Carmel, IN on Sunday, April 2 2017, while surrounded by family members. Tommie was born September 14, 1925 in Webbers Falls, Oklahoma.
After graduating valedictorian of her high school class, Tommie, her sister and mother moved to the San Francisco area to apply their work ethic and intellect to the war effort. Tommie rose quickly through the ranks of naval administration. As WWII concluded, she met her future husband, Richard Sievert. Tommie worked for several years as a legal assistant, as well as graduating Business School, in Toledo, OH before moving to Chicago in 1954 and Indianapolis in 1957. In Indianapolis, Tommie became a homemaker and a devoted volunteer over many decades, including St. Margaret’s Hospital Guild, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, and committee membership/leadership at Meridian Hills Country Club. Tommie was actively involved with First Congregational Church and Second Presbyterian Church. Tommie was a bowler, an avid golfer and (almost inexplicably) an ardent fan of tennis. Tommie was blessed with numerous, varied and loyal friendships. She, and her independent spirit, will be missed by many.
Tommie is survived by her husband of 71 years, Richard D. Sievert, son Kevin Sievert (Barbara Munson), daughter Janet Griffith Nie (William), grandson Emery Sievert (Sarah), granddaughter, Brittany Pittsford (Matt), Grandson C. Perry Griffith III (Carrie) and granddaughter Maegan O’Neal (Greg) and 9 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Flanner and Buchanan-Broad Ripple, 1305 E. Broad Ripple Avenue from 2-4 pm on Saturday, April 8th, 2017. Services to immediately follow.
