Thomas “Tom” T Doney 85 of Indianapolis passed away Monday December 31, 2018. Tom was born in Indianapolis on June 10, 1933 to Thomas and Eugenia Doney Sr. Tom graduated from Onarga Military School in 1952. Tom played in the Citadel Military Band and played a snare drum at the Inauguration of President Eisenhower in January of 1952. He served our country in the United States Army. Tom achieved the Blue Key Award while at Indiana State University where he graduated in education as well as his master’s degree. Tom was a very well-respected educator who was admired by his students and colleagues. He taught at North Central High School for the next 34 years. Tom had a passion for Asian studies, Russian history, World history which he taught. After retiring Tom taught social studies at Hasten Hebrew Academy for 5 years. He was a devout member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral where he served on the Parish council as well as member and past President of A.H.E.P.A. Chapter 232. He was the founding developer of Greek Festival Souvenir book. Calling will be held on Friday January 04, 2019 at Flanner Buchanan-Broad Ripple 1305 East Broad Ripple Ave. from 4 to 8 pm with a A.H.E.P.A service at 6:45 pm then a Trisagion Service at 7 pm. Additional calling will be held on Saturday January 05, 2019 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral 3500 West 106th Street Carmel IN 46032 from 10 to 11 am followed by the funeral service at 11 am. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Tom married the love of his life Irene Ginoplos on January 29, 1961 in Terre Haute, IN and have been married for 57 years. He is also survived by his sister; Olga Willoughby and his brother Nick Doney and his sister-in-law; Virginia (John) Wassill and several nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be given to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Irene would like to thank the caring staff at Sunrise on Old Meridian Street and Hooverwood Nursing Home who brought dignity and comfort in Tom’s final days.
