Thomas P. Harris, 76, Noblesville, passed away August 15, 2016. Thomas was born April 5, 1940 in West Allis, Wisconsin, the son of the late Patrick and Lucille (Sayle) Harris.
Tom received his bachelor’s degree in Economics and Speech from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon. He worked for the majority of his career in convention and trade management and belonged to the American Society of Association Executives. Later in his career he created Thomas Harris and developing and managing The Great American Golf Show which traveled to several cities throughout the Midwest.
His faith and family were of paramount importance. He was an active and long time parishioner of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and volunteered with the Knights of Columbus. Tom and his wife both retired in 2004. He and Margaret Mary loved to travel and were able to enjoy several trips with a particular highlight being a visit to Ireland for their 25th wedding anniversary. He was also a devoted race fan attending 34 Indianapolis 500 races. It was a ritual of Tom's to read the daily paper and so he volunteered to read the Indianapolis Business Journal at WFYI to help those with diminished eyesight stay abreast of interesting information. When his children were young he thoroughly enjoyed volunteering with their extracurricular activities.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Margaret Mary (O’Connor) Harris, four children; Elizabeth (Richard) Hauser, Patrick Harris, Kathleen (Robert) Ford, and Theresa (Andrew) Dunn, and seven grandchildren; Kathryn, Margaret, and Sarah Hauser, Mary Theresa and Ryan Ford, and Megan and Daniel Dunn.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 19, 2016, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 4650 North Shadeland Ave. – Indianapolis. Visitation will be Thursday, August 18, 2016 at Flanner and Buchanan – Carmel, 325 East Carmel Drive, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary and sharing of memories. Visitation will also take place from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass Friday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph Council 5290, 4332 North German Church Road, Indianapolis, IN 46235.
