Thomas Cortese
It is impossible to consolidate into words the exceptional life of Tom Cortese.
He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1982. He went on to earn a degree in Economics from Indiana University.
His life was well lived and he was well loved. In fact, Tom was a true friend to everyone. Indeed once you were his friend – you were always his friend. His support of you was unconditional and consistent and this gentle, loving, caring and wonderful man has left a permanent mark etched on our hearts and will be supremely missed.
We were married for 28 years. We were a great team supporting each other in every way. Tom did not want to burden us with the cancer. While he was constantly holding his hand out to help another….it was difficult for him to accept the reverse…
Tom was a perfectionist. He was a very clever and hard working, compassionate towards everyone, and deserved the success and rich life that he enjoyed.
Tom developed and owned several businesses including Computers 2000, Integrated Business Solutions and most recently Cresta.com. Tom was a member of CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member), the Italian Heritage Society of Indiana and the Indiana Board of Realtors. He always seemed to be able to draw upon boundless energy, enthusiasm and exceptional business acumen.
Tom had many hobbies including spending time with family and friends, working on his classic Chevy truck “Old Girl” or his 28 year old John Deere lawn mower. He loved to cruise around in his Porsche “Little Red” and on the water in his beloved Sea Ray boat. Tom considered himself a steak connoisseur and the simple act of grilling the perfect New York Strip was a favorite pastime.
To help cope with the chemo therapy, Tom took up woodworking and built wooden treasures not for himself, but rather the birdhouses and cutting boards were given to his close friends and family. He was always tinkering or repairing something in his workshop.
Tom taught us many, many things but I think most importantly he gave us the ability to know that if you really put your mind to something, anything is possible.
Tom was always there for everyone his family, neighbors, colleagues, or friends. He will forever be remembered for his smile, gentle eyes, caring heart, loving embrace and unconditional love.
As you read this know that Tom loved you all very much and he was so proud of his son, his friends and, family and your wonderful achievements.
I will always remember the selfless way he lived his life. Those who give of themselves. Those who love and give generously find a type of fulfillment that extends beyond position, or title. They find an authority that reaches into our heart and soul. Their example is studied. Their counsel is sought. Their stories are told in positive ways. And their happiness is truly lasting. May we, like Tom, refuse to overlook the importance of selflessness. Instead, may we choose to pursue selflessness as the very means to achieve happiness – not just for our own sake, but for the sake of those we choose to love
Tom’s love was unconditional and this is something I will cherish – and take with me forever. It is hard to imagine the impact and imprint he had on so many.
To say Tom Cortese was loved would be an understatement – and to say he will be missed would be an even greater understatement.
