Theresa Ann Smith

It is with great sadness that the family of Theresa A. Smith, 73, of Carmel announce her passing on August 6, 2024, surrounded by family. 

Terri was born April 12, 1951, in Erie, PA the daughter of the late Raymond and Helen (Kweder) Martin. 

Upon marriage to Thomas Smith, she moved to Fairfax county in Northern Virginia, where she worked in mortgage banking. The family moved to Herndon, VA where she worked in the Fairfax County school system. Terri was very involved with St. Joseph Church in Herndon. Terri and Tom moved to Carmel, IN in 1996 where Tom took a new job and Terri continued to work in the Carmel Clay school system. She was very involved in ministries at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Carmel by visiting nursing homes, volunteering at the Merciful Help Center, Bible Study, and Cursillo. She also served as a Sacristan at her church and as St. Vincent Hospital in Carmel. She enjoyed fitness classes at the Monon Community Center, spending time with friends and neighbors and walking her dog Millie.

Terri is survived by her husband of 54 years, Tom; son, Timothy of Westfield, IN; daughter, Jennifer (Adam Lobdell) of Jersey City, NJ; granddaughters, Isabella and Sophia Smith of El Paso, Texas; her sister, Alice (John) Hodas; brother, Vincent (Joie) Martin of Erie, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in passing by two sisters, Josephine Neubert and Frances Janiuk.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 12 noon Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 14598 Oak Ridge Road. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of mass. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution in Terri’s memory to the Merciful Help Center, 1045 West 146th Street, Carmel, IN 46032.
