Thaddeus “Ted” Henry Godzwa, 77, of Indianapolis Indiana, passed away on March 3, 2023. He was born on April 30, 1945, in Paterson, New Jersey, to parents, Thaddeus A. Godzwa and Mildred (Girardi) Godzwa.
On May 28, 1966, Ted married the love of is life, Barbara (Brinig) Godzwa, in Erie, Pennsylvania.
Ted served his country honorably in the Air Force for 4 dedicated years starting in 1963 until 1967. He was stationed at Minot, North Dakota air base, assigned to working on Hound Dog missiles in the Strategic Air Command.
In 1971 he started working with the Federal Government, Department of Defense. His career moved him and his family to many states throughout the years, including Pennsylvania, Michigan, Virginia, New Jersey, and finally to Indiana in 1995. Ted retired as a GS-15 from Fort Benjamin Harrison in 2007.
Ted loved nothing more than spending time with his family. He spent many weekends enjoying and watching his granddaughter, Emillie, perform in band competitions and half-time shows. He was an avid golfer and taught his grandson Jack how to play. He loved to play golf with his son, Jeff, and his grandson, Jack. He also spent many weekends golfing with his work buddies at different courses. Ted also loved to play racquetball. He was very skilled at it and competitive. Ted loved to sit on his front porch, talking to anyone who passed by. He especially enjoyed having neighbors sit with him, have a beer and solve all of the world’s problems. He will be dearly missed by so many.
Ted is survived by his loving wife of almost 57 years, Barbara Godzwa; his son, Jeffrey (Susan) Godzwa; grandchildren, Emillie Rose Godzwa (Jeff) and Jack “JT” Godzwa; brothers, Bob Godzwa, Rick (Francine) Godzwa, and Jim Godzwa; and many other beloved friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thaddeus A. and Mildred Godzwa.
Visitation for Ted will be from 12-2pm on Friday, March 10, 2023, at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East – 10722 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46229, with a funeral service with military honors immediately following at 2pm. Inurnment will take place at a later date. There will be an open house starting at 5pm at Ted and Barb’s home at 6034 Lazy Lane, Indianapolis, IN 46259. All are welcome to attend.
