Ted was born in Rensselaer, IN in 1937 as the firstborn son of Theodore W. Knorr Jr. & Dorothy Berg. He passed away January 24, 2025. He graduated from Rensselaer High School in 1955 and received an associate degree in criminal justice from Purdue Northwest. He served in the Indiana National Guard for 10 years becoming a Staff Sgt. He was an A&P manager/trainee prior to graduating from the Indiana State Police (ISP) Academy in 1962, then proudly served 30 years, having been an ISP scuba diver, undercover officer, then retiring as a Detective Sergeant / deputy U.S. Marshall, investigating numerous political corruption cases and the infamous Larry Eyler serial homicide case. He held memberships in the Indiana State Police Alliance, Pioneers of Indiana State Police, Living Legends of Auto Racing, Hoosier Auto Racing Fans, NI500CC, Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, Monon Railroad Historical Society and National Model Railroad Association.
He was a 1970 dirt track stock car champion prior to becoming a speedway promoter of 255 weekly events over 15 years. His passion for racing led him to the town of Speedway where he worked with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) special services and developed a strong relationship with the IMS museum. He was honored to have displayed several personal racing memorabilia items there for several years. He also originated the largest ever auto racing memorabilia show at IMS, the day before the Indianapolis 500.
He is survived by wife Cathy; daughter and sons Stacey (Gary), David, and Troy (Robin); grandchildren Stephen, Nicole, Kendall, Taylor, Lauren, Kristen, Natalie, Nicholas, Emily, Hannah, Andrew, and Leah; great-grandchildren Katlin, Everette, Cameron, Elijah, Emersyn, Ruth, Dori and Levi; and sister and brothers Sharon, Robert, and Gerry. He was preceded in death by his first wife Carol, the mother of his three children, and sisters Dorothy and Karen.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, January 31, 2025, at Flanner Buchanan – Speedway in Indianapolis. Visitation will also be 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. (Central Time) at Jackson’s Funeral Chapel in Rensselaer Saturday, February 1, 2025, with the funeral at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens of Rensselaer.
