was born July 29, 1962, in Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, to Sylvia Jean Glover and Bruce Bernard Glover Sr. She was named "SWEETPEA" by her paternal great grandmother Ethel Lou Copeland, and at the same time her name was cosigned by her maternal grandmother, Sylvia Louise Hill.
Sweetpea was an Angel given to us by God, not only for our family, but for everyone whose life she touched. She was the happiest & oldest of all her siblings and made a difference in their lives as they were growing up. Everyone that met Sweetpea has a story to tell about how her upbeat personality and her Angelic presence affected them. Not only did she have an effect on folks on a personal level, but she also had the ability to affect whole groups of people. Case in point, Sweetpea lived with her mom until she was 60 years old, Sweetpea then moved into a laid-back low-keyed group home. Sweetpea moved in and turned the group home into an upbeat and exciting home enjoyed by the residents and caregivers.
Sweetpea could not walk, nor could she talk, but she was indeed not handicapped. She was able to communicate her needs as well as understanding the needs of her extended family that was always around her. For example, her father was taking her to her doctor's appointment and made a wrong turn, Sweetpea let him know it was a wrong turn and where he needed to turn by humming, leaning her body, swinging her hands, and pointing in the right direction. One hot summer day, Sweetpea and her brothers poured themselves a drink. Sweetpea took one look at her drink and poured it on the ground. This was Sweetpea's hint for them to do the same, but they didn't, and they all ended up with diarrhea. After this was done Sweetpea looked at her brothers with a smile on her face. Sweetpea was clairvoyant and had a sixth sense about what was going on around her. Sweetpea was lying in bed looking at the worried look on her father's face, she reached up and patted him on his head letting him know it's ok and that she was alright. Sweetpea had, along with her other attributes, a caring heart.
Sweetpea loved being outdoors on a porch or in a park, she enjoyed water works and swimming pools. She had fun at the children's museum as well as the Indianapolis Zoo. She liked automobile rides, traveling on airplanes, and most of all dancing in her wheelchair to her favorite artists: Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Michael Jackson and Tina Turner just to name a few. She not only knew the rhythm but also the lyrics and She also enjoyed listening to the song titled: "Heaven" by BeBe & CeCe Winans.
Sweetpea had a full life, a life full of family, friends and acquaintances. She was indeed happy, smart and funny. She will be missed by all of us as she leaves a hole in our hearts that can never be filled. As we grieve, we are eternally thankful for the holiness of her earthly presence and the honor of being able to love her and the blessing of being loved by her. So now, Father God has sent his Angels to bring Sweetpea back to him and we try to understand because the Angels came much sooner than we had planned.
Amen.
