Sylvia Gay McClure, or Granny as most knew her, passed away peacefully on the night of January 18, 2017 in her home in Indianapolis at the age of 82. Sylvia was born on October 29, 1934 in Albany, Kentucky to her parents Virgil Groce and Tressie Thrasher. She was the 4th child out of 14 brothers and sisters who were Margaret, Verna, Mona, Ben, Huston, Gary, Wayne, Donny, Eddy, Earl, Joannie, Johnny, and Rod. After high school she worked her first job at Dire Drug. After marrying JB Claborn she moved to Indiana and became a Hairdresser and then went to work at Western Electric. She then divorced and married Jack McClure who she enjoyed a happy life with until his death in 2007. On top of her work she was a member of the Indiana Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. In her free time, she loved to play card games with her friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack McClure, her daughter, Pam Basey and seven of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son, Jeff Claborn, her grandchildren Kim D’Anna (Bill D’Anna), Kelly Basey (Dipan Patel), Chris Basey and Cody Claborn, four great-grandchildren and six of her brothers and sisters. A showing will be held at Flanner and Buchanan-Washington Park East, 17022 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, Indiana on Monday, January 23, 2017 from 4pm to 8pm. The funeral service will be at the same location on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 starting at 1pm.
