Indianapolis, Indiana – Susan Julianne Wright, passed away on November 29, 2024, and is now free. A vivacious woman who marched to her own beat, who rarely held her tongue, who was genuine in her concern for others, and unyielding in the love and protection of her family—she will be sorely missed.
Susan was born on February 14, 1957, in Martinsville, Indiana to parents Joseph Harlan & Marie Amelie (Newby) Lachmayer. Clever and astute, she attended Howe High School in Indianapolis. After graduating early, she briefly attended on scholarship the Herron School of Art and Design. A naturally gifted artist, she loved to sketch the people and places in the world around her.
Susan also enjoyed night life and going out dancing with friends. On one such occasion she met Daniel Wright. The two married on October 10, 1981. Together they had two darling daughters and were devoted to each other until his passing in 2020.
Always in charge of any situation, Susan worked as a manager for many years in food service and hospitality throughout the Indianapolis area. In her work she met lifelong friends whom she considered more like family. In 2008 she and Daniel ventured into the non-profit world where they helped over a thousand Indiana families gain stability.
Susan was hardworking, but when she had a chance to relax, she loved to play cards with her family, watch westerns with Daniel, or get dolled up and go out with Daniel’s sisters. Later in life when she began to lose mobility she would go to the movies with her dear friend Cathy to see any film starring The Rock. Her family was her world, and she was dearly loved.
Susan is preceded in death by her father Joseph H. Lachmayer and husband Daniel Lee Wright.
She is survived by her children, Stephaney Marie Philip (Stephen) and Brittaney Rachelle Wright; mother Marie A. Lachmayer; siblings Elliot Lachmayer, Robert Lachmayer, and Charles Lachmayer; grandchildren Maya Tealer, Rian Tealer, and Emmett-Salem Philip; nieces and nephews; and a whole host of beloved in-laws.
A celebration of life will be held on January 11, 2024. Please reach out to the family for further information.
