Sue was born October 8, 1937, in Indianapolis to the late Andrew “Jack” and Melva Smith. She graduated from Howe High School and Purdue University. She went on to Ball State University to receive her master’s degree in education and worked for many years as a science teacher. Sue was very active in the Warren Township School Board, serving as President for several terms. She also served as the director of the Indiana Center for Family School and Community Partnerships, as well as board president—along with many other roles—at her church.
Sue was generous in sharing her time and talents, volunteering with various organizations, such as the PTA, ICAN, Wolf Park, the Girl Scouts as a troop leader, NESCO and its Bike Rodeo, and the Band Boosters.
She enjoyed working on puzzles, knitting, camping, and gardening. Sue also loved the many St. Bernards she and her husband owned over the years and her Sun conure, Baby. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother and will be dearly missed by those who knew her.
