Susan E. Reid was born in Marshall, MO to Esther Ruth Cassity Reid and James Armand Reid, MD.
She graduated from Colorado Women’s College and earned her Juris Doctorate at the Cumberland School of Law, Samford University in Homewood, Alabama.
Susan moved to Atlanta, GA after graduation and considered herself a “southerner.”
She worked as the East Coast Counsel for Home Federal Bank (5 years), as Assistant General Counsel for Fannie Mae (18 years) and most recently as General Counsel for McCalla, Raymer, Pierce and Liebert for the past 12 and ½ years.
Susan loved the law; the intellectual challenge and the thrill of the deal.
She was deeply invested in our country’s political history and was passionate about justice for all.
She was named in the Top 25 Women in Law in 2021.
She would not want to be remembered only for her contributions to the law but to her contributions to society. When you were with her, you were seen and heard. She gave readily of her time, knowledge, and her resources.
Other than the law, she was devoted to her “mini-winkles”, Sarah (Sean) Murray, Anne (Alexander) Curchin and Emily (Logan) Stanley. Trips home were always filled with board games, laughter and hugs; always an adventure.
Her great nieces and nephews were her connection to “they younger crowd”. “They keep me hip”, she was known to say. To Evan and Emma Murray, Louisa and Alexander “Buster” Curchin and Reid and Marianne (MA) Stanley, you will never know the joy you gave to Sus. She loved you endlessly.
Late in life, Susan met and married Anne M. Roberts. “Wherever you are Anne Roberts, is home to me” she would say. She was lovingly embraced by her Indiana family, Allison Gabriel, Mary (Colin) Scher, Joe (Sarah) Riordan and Emily Riordan, Dianna Atkins, Rebecca (Rob) Moore, Brian (Louise) Roberts, Tim (Michelle) Roberts.
In life, we are lucky to have a true friend. Susan had many, too many to list them all, but I would be remiss if we didn’t recognize Mary Quattro, Suzanne Barkett and Linda “Red” Porter her Charleston and sometimes Vegas travel partners. Ray and Margo Henderson, her Douglasville neighbors, and dear friends. And Jean (O’Dell) Roberts, the friend that knew you when.
Susan also leaves behind her brother Michael (Sally) Reid, sister-in-law, Terry Reid and many cousins and extended family members.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents and her brother James Reid.
