Susan Carole Hutchison, 79, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away March 21, 2020. She was born on June 15, 1940 to the late Arthur and Lucille Buchanan Moore.
Susan was an angel walking on this earth. She was loved by everyone, and she always brought a smile to everyone’s face. She would be the first to open her arms and offer help to someone in need, especially her family. For many years she was the “cafeteria lady” at Craig Junior High, her nickname was Cinderella. The kids all loved her because she was kind and funny. Later she went to work as the manager of the cafeteria at Lawrence Central High School, again, she was loved by the students and her staff. She created “family”, embracing people into her life who needed love.
She was married to Clifford Paul Hutchison August 28, 1960. They lived together in the same house for nearly 60 years. They were sweethearts right up until the end, each hanging on for the other to make sure they would be okay. Their son, Brad, came into their life in 1969. Brad married Melissa and they had a son, Jonathan. Susie always loved children, especially Jonathan because he came along after her other grandchildren were older. She loved the little ones, loved to spoil them, loved to show the wonders of the world. So when Jonathan came along, she got to start all over again with the baby stage!
Kathy Mcginn was her niece, though Susie often referred to her as her “girl child”. When Kathy’s children were born, Susie became “grammy” and Cliff was “grandpa”. She was a wonderful grandma and always ready to pop in every little whip stitch (she only lived about 5 minutes away, so it was easy). Emily Karlander (25 yrs), Andy Karlander (22 years) and Alex Karlander (20 yrs) took different turns living at the house with Sue and Cliff the past 9 months to help them remain in the home despite the increasing health needs that emerged over time. Susie was so proud of them!
Susie also informally “adopted” two others as grandchildren, Paul Porter and Joelle Martin. Paul came into her life when he was 15 and living with Kathy. Both were greatly influenced by her presence for the time they were able to share with her. Paul grew up to be fine man he is now married to Mackenzie with their daughter Ellie. Joelle came into her life through Emily, when she was in high school. Joelle is a wonderful woman, married to Brennan with son, Dakota (and one on the way!).
The family will have a celebration of life for Susan at a later date.
