Steven L. Grimes Sr.

Steven L. Grimes Sr., 73, of Indianapolis, passed away May 31^st, 2022. He was born May 15^th, 1949, in Indianapolis to parents Wilbur and Charlotte (Sherron) Grimes.

Steven graduated from Arsenal Tech High in 1967.  While attending Arsenal Tech he was a member of the ROTC and a staff member of The Cannon, Tech’s high school newspaper.  He was also involved in the SAO (Student Affairs Organization) as an executive board member.  It was at Tech that he met the love of his life, Joyce Ann Yates. They married in 1967 and shared 55 wonderful years together.

Immediately following graduation, he worked for Kroger.  A short time later he went to work for Kirby Vacuum before eventually operating his own business, a Kirby distributorship until 1983.  After Kirby he worked as an insurance salesman for several companies throughout his career including Monumental, Anthem and United. While at United he was regional sales manager and district manager for 10 years.

Steven was a generous, loving gentleman.  He enjoyed working in his yard with his many trees and flowers.  He also enjoyed movies, both on the big screen and at home.  His movie collection was quite impressive. However, nothing brought more joy to Steven and Joyce than spending time with their grandchildren.  Whenever possible they could be seen at various sporting events, choir performances or school functions supporting their grandchildren.  Family was a precious blessing to Steven.  Each weekend their home would be filled with family and laughter, commonly referred to as GFR (Grimes Family Reunion).  He loved completely and was loved completely by his entire family.

Steven is survived by his devoted wife Joyce; his children Steven (Jill) Grimes, Brian (Liz) Grimes, Sean (Holly) Grimes; grandchildren Madison (Bryant) Grider, Steven (Adriana), Riley, Jonathan, Victoria and Jackson; soon to arrive great-granddaughter Felicity Grider; siblings Michael (Tammy) Grimes and Kim Dineen; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Thomas Grimes and brother-in-law Michael Dineen.

Visitation for Steven will be Monday June 6^th, from 12-2pm, at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East. His funeral will begin at 2pm. He will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery.
