Steven Joseph Ahlrichs, 55, died peacefully in his sleep on Friday, December 31, 2021. He was born on January 31, 1966 to his parents, Gary and Shirley Ahlrichs. He was a graduate of Cathedral High School and Xavier University. He met the love of his life, Julie Surratt, while they were counselors at a camp for diabetic children. They were married in 1989 and had two wonderful sons, Steven and Ryan.
In his early career, he worked in sales, but his favorite job was being Safari Steve for Silly Safaris. He also enjoyed working at St. Monica School.
He was an amazing son, brother, and friend. He was a lover of the outdoors and an active volunteer. He devoted his time to Camp Nathanael, the Boy Scouts, and as a tutor at New Era Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Julie, in 2017. He is survived by his sons, Steven (Rebecca) of Denver, CO, and Ryan of Los Angeles, CA, parents, Gary and Shirley, siblings, Mike of Indianapolis, Julie (Chris) of Cincinnati, OH, Jennifer (Peter) of Loveland, OH, and Tim of Indianapolis, as well as many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, and friends.
Calling will take place on Thursday, January 13, 2022, from 4-8pm at St. Monica Catholic Church. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, January 14, 2022, at 11am at St. Monica Catholic Church, 6131 N. Michigan Rd., Indianapolis, IN, 46228. Burial will immediately follow at Washington Park North Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Camp Nathanael at http://www.campnathanael.org/ under Fund – Steve Ahlrichs Memorial. Checks also can be made out to SMMM in memo or note “Steve Ahlrichs Memorial Fund” and mail to SMMM, P.O. Box 129, Emmalena, KY, 41740. The Outdoor Education program is for students to learn about nature from a scientific, biblical perspective, and Steve volunteered there for more than 15 years and looked forward to it each year.
