Stephen “Steve” P. Watson of Carmel passed away April 4 at the age of 82, after a 15-year battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Steve was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on December 21, 1942, to Norton and Helen (Ferry) Watson. He graduated from Danville High School and attended Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology where he earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering in 1965. In 1966, Steve volunteered for and was accepted to officer candidate school with the United States Navy and served as a Reserve Naval Officer during the Vietnam War. After the Navy, he received a master’s degree in engineering from Purdue University and worked as an automotive mechanical engineer for his entire career. He was awarded several patents for automotive parts he designed during his career.
Steve met Barbara (Nobrega) of Attleboro, Massachusetts in 1966 and the two were married in 1968. They were married for 45 years before her passing in 2013. Steven and Barb raised four children together. As a family, they enjoyed beach days at Newport, RI, hiking in Indiana, and visiting with relatives. Other than his family, Steve enjoyed building furniture in his woodshop, running, and gardening.
Steve was proceeded in death by his loving wife Barbara, his parents, and his two older brothers Norton “Dale”, Jr. and Robert. He is survived by his brother Jon (Jane) Watson, sons Paul (Arlene) Watson, Joshua (Christa) Watson, and daughters Christine (Kevin) Peck and Joan Isaac. In addition, Steve is survived by 10 grandchildren, Benedict and Riley Watson; Maximilian, Amelia, and Sebastian Watson; Alexis, Reagan, and Peyton Peck; Augustus and Sidney Isaac and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass will be at 12 noon Friday, April 25, 2025, at St. Monica Catholic Church, 6131 North Michigan Road, Indianapolis. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of mass at the church. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Vincent de Paul - Indianapolis or to Holt International Adoption Agency.
