Stephen Louis Heritier,
74, passed away on December 4th, 2017, surrounded by his family. Steve was born January 4th, 1943, the son of Louie and Lorene Heritier, Indianapolis, who preceded him in death. Steve met his wife, Hazel, on a blind date and proposed to her 2 weeks after their first date. They were married in January of 1964 and remained married for 52 years until Hazel passed away in 2016. Hazel and Steve lived in Indianapolis, Lima, Ohio, South Bend, Indiana and they spent winters in Las Vegas, Nevada, during their retirement years.
Steve graduated from George Washington High School and attended Ball State University. He began a job as a bank teller in 1964 and worked his way up to become a national bank examiner for the US Government, office of the Comptroller, from which he retired after 32 years. He was an avid collector of Lionel model trains and accessories and made many good friends in the model train world. He was a devoted husband and wonderful caretaker to his wife Hazel, who battled Multiple Sclerosis for the last 35 years of their marriage.
Steve is survived by 4 children, Michele (Ken) Berryhill, Darcy Rene (Michael) Ashley, Nicole (Corey) Cook, and Andrew Heritier. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, Kristina (Scott) Taft, Jessica (Alex) Goodman, Cassandra (fiancée, Casey Barber), Jacob (Lydia) Berryhill, Andrew James Keys and Aaron Heritier; 2 great grandchildren, Emily Taft and Caleb Berryhill. Steve is also survived by his sister, Kay Harlan, who was a great companion to him after the passing of his wife Hazel, and a brother, Alan Heritier.
Arrangements are entrusted to Flanner Buchanan-Floral Park and will hold a private graveside service for family on Saturday, December 9, 2017.
