Stephen L. Mayhew

Stephen L. Mayhew, 76, of Noblesville passed away May 6, 2022.  He was born May 14, 1945, in Indianapolis, the son of the late Jack P. and Annette (Akin) Mayhew.

Stephen was a 1963 graduate of Carmel High School, where he was a member of the golf team.  After graduation, he then went on to play golf at Purdue University until his graduation in 1967.  He won the Big Ten Championship and was named NCAA All-American.  He quickly gained recognition of being one of the top golfers in the state of Indiana.  While at Purdue, he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.  He later went on to receive his Master’s in teaching from Indiana University.  He returned to Carmel-Clay Schools, where he taught history for 37 years and coached golf and basketball.

In retirement he enjoyed spending his winters in Fort Myers and Cape Coral, Florida. In Florida, he was a member of Southside Christian Church, where he taught adult Sunday school class.  In 2019, he and Beth moved back to Noblesville to be closer to family.  He attended Cicero Christian Church and he loved spending time with his family, traveling, and playing golf.

He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Beth Mayhew; son, Zachary (Nikki) Mayhew; daughter, Adrienne (Damon) Keller; step-son, Thomas (Kristen) Mix; step-daughters, Emalee (Ryan) Graf and Brooke (Ethan) Ralston; and nine grandchildren, Sydney Keller, Quinten Keller, Quincy Keller, Lilly Graf, Brigid Graf, Joseph Graf, Annabelle Mix, Lucy Mix, and Clara Ralston.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2022, at Flanner Buchanan – Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Good Shepherd Chapel), 9700 Allisonville Road.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2022, at Flanner Buchanan – Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Conner Suite).  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or Cicero Christian Church.  Online condolences may be shared by visiting flannerbuchanan.com.
