Stephen J. Draughon, 69, of Indianapolis, passed away on October 26, 2021. He was born March 11, 1952, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to parents Joseph “Joe” and Joann (Kinzie) Draughon.
Steve grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he graduated from high school in 1970 from Arlington High School. He continued his education at Indiana University, Bloomington and was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Steve loved his friends most, but also tolerated the academic portion of his time at IU, graduating in 1974 with his bachelor’s degree in business.
Steve would later work in sales and eventually as a sales manager in the Indianapolis area.
Steve was private and reserved, yet loyal and fond of his friends and family. Steve’s happiest times were spent camping at Seedhouse Campground in Routt County, Colorado, where he loved to fly fish and soak in the mountain air with his family. Some trips included the entire extended family, too. If it was too cold to camp, Steve enjoyed the occasional trip to ski in Colorado with friends and family.
In 2012, Steve married longtime girlfriend Carolyn O’Connell. They remained in Indianapolis until Steve’s retirement and passing. He is survived by his wife Carolyn; daughter, Elizabeth (Eric) Cercone, who he lovingly referred to as his “Darling Daughter”; grandchildren, Jackson and Savannah; his sister, Kathy (Larry) Hazlett; niece, Laura Hazlett and nephew, Justin Hazlett.
Steve is preceded in death by his father, Joe and mother, Joann; as well as numerous beloved family pets.
